I was born in Northern California and grew up on an orchard in a rural farming town called Orland. My dad was a volunteer firefighter and drove a milk truck for the county dairy cooperative. My mom worked odd jobs including working at a dry cleaner's and taking weekend shifts at a local highway convenience store. Naturally, as soon as I was capable, I began helping my parents in wide variety of work from an early age. I harvested almonds for my family's landlord, bailed hay with my dad, and counted change back to customers at the convenience store my mom worked at. After my dad was laid off from his job, he went back to school and became a funeral director. To support his new career, our family moved from our home town when I was 12. We first moved to Ontario, California, then moved to Phoenix during my freshman year of high school. I graduated from Thunderbird High School in May 2001. I was unsure of joining the military or going to college after high school and decided instead to do neither and began working odd jobs around the valley, including in food service, movie theaters, retail stores, security, and finance. I met my partner as she was completing her degree to become a public school teacher. We have been married for 9 years and we have two kids. In 2022, I graduated from University of Arizona's Global Campus with a BA in Business Leadership with an emphasis in Public Administration.
I have always had an interest in political office, but would dismiss my own aspirations because I did not want to be beholden to the donors to the campaign and instead work for the people. It is thanks to Senator Bernie Sanders that I learned the power of a people-funded campaign. I believe Arizonans want a progressive voice representing them in the House of Representatives, and with your help, we will win.
